Getting to La Penita is not difficult for someone who is a traveler or who has been to Mexico a few times.  It is assumed that you are not traveling to Mexico via ground transportation but if you are driving checkout some websites such as:  http://www.tomzap.com/driving.html and http://www.advantagemexico.com/driving.html 

You will be given information on how to get to your rental before you leave home.   So from the airport there are several ways:

1.  Renting a car:  A caution however, if you have not been to Mexico and have not driven here, then you may want to belay that choice until the next trip. 

It is usually best to reserve your car over the internet with one of the major car rental agencies.. they are all here.  The insurance will be separate and you will purchase it when you get the car.  (Some credit cards cover collision and comprehensive when you use their card to rent, check yours. You will sign a waiver to not include this coverage).  Car rental is expensive and the insurance will be about as much as the car.  However, since La Penita is about an hour north, give or take how many trucks you get behind, having a car is great considering all the places to visit.  If you choose not to rent a car the local taxi and bus (vans) service is excellent to other towns nearby,  Check out other websites for more info about driving in Mexico, such as: http://www.cellularabroad.com/mexicocar.html

2. Taxi.  There are two ways to get a taxi to La Penita.  The first is taking one directly from the airport,  more costly.  The second is to walk across the sky bridge and get one on the street across from the airport.  Less costly and negotiable.  Somewhere between 600 and 900 pesos. 

3.  Bus.  There are two ways to get the bus.  Take a taxi from the airport directly to the bus station, more costly.  Or, again, walk across the sky bridge and take taxi to the bus station.  Also, you can take a local bus to the bus station.  The bus station is about 1 mile north.  The cost of the taxi from the airport will be about 100 pesos, from across the street about 50 pesos and the bus 6 pesos.  The bus costs about 90 pesos to La Penita.  Take the Pacifico bus, good as any.  They leave every 20 minutes.
